Sunday the boys were running around and both had a clear runny nose and mild cough. They coughed like once an hour..if that. Well mid morning Shane was REALLY clingy. Were I got nothing done because he would cry and whine and cry and whine unless I was holding him. John was fine, playing and active. Around 6pm Shane and I were sitting on the couch and I was holding him watching a show. I felt that he was warm and took his temp (102.0) I noticed with my hand on his chest that his heart beat was REALLY fast. So I tried to track it, but it was hard. But I knew it just wasn't normal for him. Along with that I noticed shortness of breath. Each breath was like a struggle. That was my biggest concern. Brian was at a friends watching the Jets game, so I was sitting there debating on what to do. Finally I just said let me put them both to bed and I will take him to the dr in the morning (after giving Shane Tylenol). About an hour later I still heard Shane up (he typically falls asleep within 10 mins of being put down and if not its because he has a poopy diaper) so I decided I would just take him into bed with me and he could sleep there. He still felt warm (Tylenol hadn't taken his fever down) So we laid down and he was really really restless. He wouldn't settle down. About 5 mins later he projectile vomited all over my bed..twice. So I swept him up cleaned him off and put him into the car on the way to the ER.
We got to the ER and he had blood taken and a chest x-ray and a flu test (any flu test that comes back pos is being assumed swine because its too early for seasonal..so I was told). They started a breathing treatment on him through the neubulizer and we waited. After the dr listen to his lungs, she had a feeling he might be staying (just by the comment she said). At this time I was thinking Bronchitis. We waited about an hour and were told that he had pneumonia. The flu test was negative. His WBC was 20,000 and should of been 10. And his O2 levels were 89/90 and should be 97ish at the very least 94. So she wanted to start IV antibiotic and have him admitted. So he was admitted and continued to be evaluated. Had breathing treatments every 4 hours around the clock. The first night his O2 levels were low.. 89/90 so the next day they started a Oxygen tank (plastic tent that goes in the crib and provides a mist and oxygen) that was fun...not!! So he saw many drs and was confined to a tiny area because he was so tied up with wires. The first night his IV wire kept getting kinked and the alarm for the machine went off every 20 mins, so I got no sleep. They did another splint the second day so it was a little better, but still went off alot. He had more antibiotics the second night and was monitored around the clock.
Thanks to all our family and friends for all the support. We had nice visits from Mimi, Opa and Uncle Shad. We got some cute gifts from our friends in California and Mimi, Opa and Uncle Shad that kept Shane entertained while we stayed. All the prayers and thoughts for our little man were greatly apprieciated..via phone, email, text and facebook!!
I am so thankful that he is feeling and doing better. It was really scary how fast his symptoms changed on Sunday. He is acting like his normal self already.
