After the holiday was over. Brian, the boys and I escaped for a mini three day getaway down to the Baltimore Harbor. The weather was perfect, and we really enjoyed the sights. We explored the Baltimore Aquarium, took in the Dolphin show (where Shane even was selected to instruct the dolphins on how to do tricks), enjoyed a 4D experience watching the Polar Express, ate some yummy food, enjoyed the hotel pool, a dragon paddle boat ride in the harbor, explored the torsk submarine and the constellation ship, watched a laser light and fireworks show on the side of the Power Plant building, saw the city from atop the world trade tower, threw pennies in the fountain, enjoyed a water taxi ride to Fells Point where we walked along cobblestone streets taking in the sights. But most of all we enjoyed spending time together as a family. It was a much needed getaway- away from the routine of life to enjoy each other's company.

Thank Goodness this Week is OVER!
Where shall I begin.
Saturday October 29th is when it all began. We had plans to attend my Uncle's 60th Birthday party. We were due to leave the house at 2pm, and all morning I watched as the weather outside progressively got worse. Light snow turned into a blizzard.
We trekked out to the party anyway, not that Brian was all to pleased. We made the hour trip in just about two hours, watching as cars that definitely were not equipped to be on the road where attempting to get to their destination.
The party was fun, and although the attendance was less then what originally was planned, that was to be expected. My cousin who flew up from FLA to surprise her father made it, and the surprise went off great (pictures to follow). As we hung out at the party, the weather got worse and worse. Brian already threw in the towel and stated he would not be driving at all. So I could either drive us home or to a local hotel. I spent the first two hours at the party calling every hotel within the vicinity. I think I called 13 in total. No one had any vacancy. This should of been a sign of things to come.
We ended up staying at my Uncle's house that night, along with half of the party guests. We headed home bright and early the next day once all the roads where clear (and half the tree's laying broken on the ground, on wires, in roads). Upon getting home we see that we have no power. The power went out about 2:30pm the day before, so shortly after we had left. I again got on the phone and attempted to call hotels in our area, and again no vacancies.
Brian had to work overnight, so the kids and I were left to snuggle under the blankets together and keep warm through the night. As half the people I knew also had no power. Through the night I noticed Shane struggling to breathe. I tried to mimic his breathing motion and was unable to keep up. He was struggling to get air, and there is nothing so frightening. When Brian arrived home on Monday 10/31, I whisked Shane away to the ER.

After some breathing treatments (which I would of attempted at home if I had power) and a chest xray, it was determined that Shane had pneumonia, and his asthma was also acting up. He started breathing treatments every two hours, steroids, and antibiotics. Around 2pm, the Pediatrician came in and made the decision that she wanted to keep him over night for observations. So we were admitted.
I snuck out for a little while to attend John's Halloween party and parade at school, and quickly mail the Cobra payment we were trying to avoid (as Brian's benefits kicked in on Nov 1st...the next day!). Bummed my little guy had to miss Halloween, but I think John got enough candy for the both of them!

The last time we were admitted with Shane for pneumonia was October 2009. They were debating on not releasing us on Tuesday evening due to the fact that we still had no power, and therefore no heat. But luckily my best friend Jessie's grandparents opened up their extra apartment for us to stay in. We are so grateful that we had somewhere to go. We were released on Tuesday night and headed over to the apartment.

Shane continued his breathing treatments every four hours. He continued to feel better and breathe better, so we knew that was a good sign. On our 7th day of no power, on Brian's trek home from working overnight, a deer decided to commit suicide along the side of his truck. I am just thankful that he is okay, and that the boys and I weren't in the car with him. And that I didn't have to experience the anger issues I knew came out on that early morning!!
So, needless to say, its been a week that neither Brian nor I want to relive. After 8 days our power was restored, Shane is feeling better, and we have a claim to the insurance company. I am now playing catch up on laundry and photoshoot edits.
Things can only go up from here, right!?!
