It's The Little Things

Each night I go about my normal routine of setting out my work clothes for the next day and then setting up shop next to the computer for a few hours of work after a full day of work.  Lately I have been feeling a presence of someone looking over my shoulder, or capturing a glimpse of someone watching me.  After the first initial shock, I ask why my little guy has wondered out of bed again.  His reply “I’m scared”.  This is new.  Ever since my kids were about a year old they have been great sleepers.  We would put them to bed and didn’t hear from them until morning.  John is still pretty good in the fact that he will not get out of bed unless he has to go potty.  But Shane has never been one to follow the rules.  So last night as I was picking my clothes out for work, and talking to Brian while he was watching tv I glance past him and see this shadow and this little voice saying “I’m scared”.  My initial reaction was “Ok, let’s get back into bed, I will turn the light on in your room”. I want to stick to the good routine we have going on and not get in the habit of having four people in our bed each night.  I didn’t even get to finish the sentence before he was in bed, under the covers, snuggling daddy.  As soon as Daddy reached out his arms, Shane went running.  Brian and I talked about how I didn’t want to get in this habit of them coming out of the room after we put them into bed and the wise man said “They won’t want to snuggle us forever. They won’t want to come into our room at night for much longer”.  It’s true.  And as the days pass I often think about all the times we would snuggle and how it’s becoming less frequent by the day.  I went into the boys room and told John he could come out and snuggle daddy too.  So my three boys passed out in my bed for the night.  I joined them for a little while, and then listened to the giggles from the computer as I worked.  Those boys are my world, and growing way to fast!

First Day of School ~ 2012

Well today marks the first day of school for the 2012-2013 school year.  I wasn't sure what to expect when waking my sleepy heads at 7:20am, as they have been sleeping in until 9am all summer.   After a quick breakfast while still half asleep we got ready and headed out.  I also wasn't sure if John was going to play the "I don't want to go. I am not getting on the bus." card.  But he was fine.  Was excited about his new backpack and getting to head off to a new classroom.  He assured me he knew where he had to go, as they pretty much just let them lose after Kindergarten.. ..lol  No more orientations and meet the teacher before the start of school.  But I am confident that he is in good hands.  After all four of us saw John off, we headed to Camp Auxilium to bring Shane to class. He eagerly hung up his back pack and took his name tag to the attendance wall.  He was excited to see the frogs and fish that he was in awe with back during meet the teacher day.  He quickly gave me a kiss and a hug and sent me on the way.  It definitely didn't work that way when John attended, but I was happy that Shane was confident with me leaving. There I was walking back to my car with both kids gone, and I realized I didn't even cry.  The transition is getting easier and easier.  I am not sure if that is due to them getting older and becoming more independent, or that my return to work full time and being use to not spending all our days together, helps take the sting out.

Bringing Shane to school ~ one last hug for daddy

Shane at Camp Auxilium

Shane reported that he had a good day, so I am hoping that continues through the year.  He seems excited about his new class and meeting new friends.  He loved his 1st day cookie!

YUMMY

John came off the bus smiling, which made me happy.  He isn't the biggest fan of school.  He said he had a good day, and actually shared a few things about his day for once.  He was able to go to the French classroom (rather then the teacher come to him like in Kindergarten), said he saw some of his friends from last year on the playground, ate all his lunch -- rare--,  and didn't have to do too much work.
Getting off the bus

He also enjoyed his big 1st day cookie.  And being a goof ball.
Thanks Mom
After our weekly Hapkido class and a yummy dinner Daddy made, Mimi came over for a little birthday celebration.  Happy Birthday Mimi (Mom). We love you and all that you do for us!!
