Well as we know I went in to be induced. I was due to get the cervadil on Wed and start pitocin on Thursday. All went as planned. I went to the hospital on Wednesday and started the cervadil at 5pm. (I was already 2 cm dilated). After about 2 hours with the cervadil in I started timing my contractions on my own because it seemed like they were beginning to come on more frequent. Well they were 5-6 mins apart. So I called in the nurse and asked if this was normal for just being on cervadil (I was under the impression it was just going to ripen my cervix and I was going to be able to relax because I knew I was in for a long day on Thursday). Well the contractions started getting worse and I asked if there was something I could have for the pain. The nurse gave me a shot of Stadol (sp?) in the butt OUCH, that stung! And it did NOTHING for me but make me drowsy (it was suppose to make me drowsy so I could sleep, and help with the pain). Well the contractions were still coming on strong, so the nurse checked me at 10pm (5 hours after the cervadil was placed) and I was 3cm. She talked to the dr and they decided it would be best to take out the cervadil and let me rest through the night –this was about 10:30pm. (ha ha freaking HA). I just continued to be in more pain. About an hour later (around 11:45 pm) I asked for something for the pain again and the nurse said, let me check you, and the look on her face was priceless… I was 9cm. So she immediately said I'm going to call the dr you call your husband (Brian had gone home at 8pm for the night to put John to bed and was coming back at 7am in the morning, no point in both of us not getting sleep). So I called Brian and said, COME NOW! And then called my mom and said you need to get to the house NOW.
Brian arrived about 12:20 and was I happy to see him! I was in SO much pain and it was TOO late for my epidural. HOW DARE THEY! I can't even begin to tell you how upset I was about that one. But I did make it that far without it, but its not like I had a choice in the matter.
I was fully dilated and ready to go a little before 1am.
Shane James Carman arrived at 1:37am weighing 9lbs 4oz and 22in. (he peed and pooped on the way out so he technically could have been a little more) (John was 9lbs 7.5oz 22in).
John and Shane have very similar features but look different too. Strange! Shane has a lot darker hair and smaller ears then John, but the lips and chin are the same.
I still can't believe I had another 9lbs + baby and I did it with NO drugs. (that definitely wasn't my intention, but apparently they wont start an epidural at 9cm... ARG)
John is doing surprisingly well with his new baby brother. He is SUCH a big help and has been very gentle and loving towards him. Most of the time he wants nothing to do with him, which is fine for now too.
